A two-day fastpacking introduction in the Yatsugatake mountains. Camping at Japan's highest outdoor onsen, then traversing the main ridgeline.

Two days in the Yatsugatake range, starting with a run through forest to Japan's highest outdoor onsen and finishing on one of the finest ridgelines in the country.
Day one eases you in. From the trailhead you climb through Yatsugatake's northern forest to Honzawa Onsen, a steaming open-air bath at 2,150m tucked into the mountain. Camp here for the night, soak, eat, sleep well. Day two is where it opens up - an early start for sunrise from Iodake, then south along the main ridge past Akadake and Gongendake with the whole range laid out around you. A coffee stop at Seinengoya before the long descent to an onsen finish in Fujimi.
This is a self-guided fastpacking trip. Everyone is on the same course but you move at your own pace. Bring all your own gear and food.
